Trinity: a successful launch!
Trinity was revealed to the press in May, and then presented at the Eurosatory Exhibition and the International Imagery to Sensors Symposium in June and July respectively. Our new system received a genuinely warm welcome which strongly confirmed professional interest in its compact features and functional integration.
Trinity’s polyvalence opens up the particularly broad field of onboard application software. Whether it is perceived as an intelligent GPS system or a geo-referencing data synchronisation device, the vital point is that Trinity is a pertinent solution to everyone’s requirements.
A prime example is research into the behaviour of competition trimarans, to push the boats to the uppermost limits of their performance. By coupling Trinity to a series of specific sensors, several skippers have already collected a great deal of information on their last sessions on the sea. A grand and inspiring challenge for such a little box..!
Offshore: the Compas GPS 3011 reaffirms its role at Acergy France
Acergy France (formerly Stolt Offshore), one of the market leaders in deep offshore engineering and construction, manages and operates a large fleet of ships all over the world. Four new Compas GPS 3011* receivers have set off for South Korea; there, they will be used during the Tug Management, setting up the future FPSO (Floating Production Storage Offloading) in the BP Greater Plutonio Offshore Angola field.
The tugs are small barges which, in this case, will maintain the FPSO in position until it is definitively attached to the 12 anchor lines preinstalled some 1,300m below. The Compas GPS 3011 will then be used for regular Tug Management, controlling the anchorage around the barges which will install the submarine pipelines.
*The Compas GPS 3011 from Magellan Navigation (formerly Thales Navigation) are single frequency GPS receivers with a double GPS antenna; they can calculate a geographical heading to within 0.5°.
