All this technology makes it possible to map the seabed, to carry out search and detection, and monitor sensitive areas. Some applications also require to detect and measure the sea floor substrate layers, and classify the seabed for preliminary design phases of wind farms / marine turbines. Halieutic resource management, and more generally submarine flora and fauna also benefit from tools that are capable of detecting and calculating biomass.
All this equipment can be implemented from varied sizes of surface vessels, on poles or towed, and from ROVs and AUVs. Some sensors are installed in a fixed location for long term measurements.
