Towed marine magnetometers are used to detect metal anomalies on and under the sea floor.
The detection of these metal masses, lying on the sea floor or already covered by silt, applies to different types of search:
- military (mines, etc.),
- archaeological (shipwrecks, cannons, cannon balls, etc.),
- ports (anchors, chains, shipwrecks, etc.).
These sensors are based on Overhauser technology (magnetic resonance), which has the advantage of navigation independent of the direction of magnetic field lines, without restriction to geographical zones.
Magnetometers can be used by themselves, combined with up to 4 fish on the same structure for finer 3D detection, or synchronised with a side-scan sonar, thereby combining the magnetometric measurements with acoustic imaging.
